Bible Verses That Teach How to Be a Good Person

Raising a child is not easy. Raising a child to be a good person is even more intimidating. Thankfully, the Bible teaches us many lessons on how to be good human beings. We recommend using these Scripture verses as a way to guide your child into becoming a role model for tomorrow.

Matthew 7:16
Matthew 7:16 says, “By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?” The message here is that people will know you belong to the Lord based on your actions. A life of holiness will lead to a good life.

1 Corinthians 15:33
In 1 Corinthians 15:33, the Bible says, “Do not be led astray; ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’ “ This verse teaches your child to choose his surroundings and his friends wisely. The wrong people will lead him to the wrong places.

Thessalonians 5:11
In Thessalonians 5:11, the Scripture says, “Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.” Building each other up is the key to kindness and being a good person. A good person and Catholic want to encourage others in their faith.

Mark 12: 31–32
Mark 12: 31–32 says, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” and “‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.’ “ To be a good person, you must love God and the people of the world. No commandment in the Bible tells us to love ourselves. When we love others, we fulfill God’s law.

Matthew 5:16
In Matthew, chapter five, verses 16, you’ll read, “Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.” Being a good person is not about what others think of you. People will notice the good deeds you have done, but use that light to shine upon what God has done for us.
