Celebrate World Kindness Day

On November 13, people all across the globe recognize World Kindness Day by performing random acts of compassion in their communities. This year, why not use this wonderful holiday to teach your child about the value of being good to others? St. Teresa, a Titusville Catholic school, has some ideas for fun activities you can do with your child this World Kindness Day. Coloring KindnessIf your child likes to draw, this activity is perfect for him! Break out the paper and art supplies and ask your child to illustrate what an act of kindness looks like to him. You can get in on the fun yourself and draw your own image of kindness. When you're all done, show some love to your child's work by displaying it proudly on the fridge.Kindness CouponsYou and your child can create future opportunities for acts of kindness with coupon books. For this activity, punch holes in one corner of 10 or 12 index cards for each book. Put all the cards on a binder ring, and label the finished book with the name of whoever will be receiving the coupons. Then, you and your child can fill the books with "coupons" for kind acts, such as a hug, a playdate, or help with a chore — for each other or for friends and family.A Helping HandServing others is an important way to show kindness. You can teach your child to look out for others in need by pointing out places where you can do something small to help. If your neighbor forgot to put out her bins on trash day, wheel them out for her. If you notice someone struggling to hold onto too many things, offer to carry some. When you model these behaviors, your child will see that there is always an opportunity to show compassion to someone and brighten their day.Cooking With CompassionFor kids who like to help out in the kitchen, cooking together can be a great way to foster kindness. You could invite extended family over and cook a nice dinner for them. Or, bake up a batch of cookies to give to your neighbors. Everyone loves a homemade treat, and your child will enjoy spending some quality time with you. With over 57 years of academic excellence, St. Teresa Catholic School, a Titusville Catholic school, provides a quality education that challenges and empowers students to develop to their full potential.
