Starting Your Child’s Day with Catholic Practices

The Bible has prayers for all occasions and times of the day, including morning prayers and bedtime prayers. Throughout the day, your child should dedicate time to their faith in order to build their spiritual life and remain close to God. Here are Catholic practices that your child can start their day with.

Singing Songs
Share God’s love and word through music. Sing a morning hymn, such as “This is the Day the Lord Has Made,” with your child. By singing, she will learn the daily flow and rhythm of Catholic prayer. We recommend visiting the OCP for a variety of songs for any occasion. OCP offers a vast selection of Catholic songs and hymns for your family to choose from!

Writing Prayers
If you haven’t already, have your child write her own prayers. Start a prayer journal or box where she can write down her own verses. Give her prompts, such as “I thank God for” or “I confess to God” and let her finish the sentences. Compile all of her Scripture writings and spend the day making a prayer book with tips from our blog. Having private discussions with God through prayer will give your child comfort with Him.

Setting Intentions
Your child should start her day by setting her intentions. She can say things like, “It’s going to be a good day,” or she can challenge herself to not say anything negative the entire day. Refer to the Bible for specific verses designated to each day, such as lessons that teach your child how to be a good person. Use that inspiration for your child to set the intention for, say, Monday, that she is going to be a good person and encourage her to do good deeds throughout the day. Saying out loud how you want your day to go and what you accomplish is a positive start! It will keep her motivated and accountable, helping her achieve her goals.
