Get Creative with These Advent Calendar Ideas
After a challenging year, we can all use a little Christmas spirit. Whether or not you have put up your tree, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your advent calendar. While traditional advent calendars work, this may be the year to get creative with your child to make something imaginative. Here are some inspiring advent calendar ideas:
Mason Jar Advent Calendar
As the return of these vintage jars has shown us, nothing is more versatile than a mason jar. From storing food to storing craft supplies, mason jars are a fun all-purpose crafting item. To create a mason jar calendar, stick kraft paper labels and number stickers to each jar lid. Then, place a different item inside each jar. Treats, small toys, even socks can fit inside standard mason jars. Click here for a full tutorial.
Stocking Garland Advent Calendar
By using a mini stocking garland as an advent calendar, you combine utility and whimsy with a delightful decoration. Store-bought mini stockings are fine, but you can easily sew or hot glue your own. Write a number on each stocking to correspond with the date. Then, hang up the garland over the fireplace or on the wall. Lego mini figures, earbuds and other small items can fit into these stockings. Click here for a full tutorial.
Envelope Advent Calendar
A paper envelope works perfectly as a blank canvas. To create this advent calendar, write dates on envelopes, and stick them to a picture frame. Because frames and envelopes come in different sizes, there is room to make these simple or intricate. Use stamps, washi tape and gift tags to decorate the envelopes. Then, place items like keychains, chapstick or novelty pins inside. We encourage creativity in our students, and your child could easily help with this fun project. The holiday season is among us, so set time aside to get creative as a family.
