The Benefits of Your Child Playing Golf

Every year, St. Teresa Catholic School, a Titusville Catholic school, hosts a golf tournament. Included with your child’s registration are a lunch, putting contest, Shotgun Start-Scramble format, awards dinner, prizes and contests, and more. It takes place at La Cita Golf and Country Club. And because there are so many benefits to playing golf, the tournament can be a family activity!

It’s Safe
Many sports, such as football, are considered physically intense and even dangerous, as they are prone to causing injuries. Golf, on the other hand, offers your child a safer outlet to be both active and competitive. Golf is much less physically demanding and risky when compared to other sports; in fact, you don’t even have to worry about buying your child protective gear. All your child needs is golf shoes and clothes.

A Challenge
As parents, you want to see your child succeed and be the best they can be. In golf, the goal is to hit the ball across the field and get it into the hole. This is far more difficult than it seems. Taking on the new and challenging helps your child build character. Professional golfers put in a lot of practice to get their swing right. This effort and dedication to succeed will boost your child’s self-esteem.

Builds Confidence
At St. Teresa, our mission is to provide challenging and empowering opportunities to our students. Activities like the golf tournament help children control emotions and build their confidence through the challenges and experiences involved. Your child will make mistakes and miscalculate holes, which teaches patience. In sports, players learn to be confident in their abilities and be responsible. Improving confidence at a young age will help your child grow into a responsible adult.

Teamwork
Sportsmanship and teamwork are key components of the golf tournament. Groups can register as teams, which gives your child the opportunity to socialize and build relationships. If they don’t win, showing sportsmanship teaches children how to treat others.

Outdoors
Children crave the outdoors, and constantly want to go outside and play. Compared to other sports, golf typically takes place in natural areas. Spending time outdoors can benefit your child’s development, including increasing productivity, energy, and cognitive function. It’s a healthy and safe sport for a child to play.

Preparation
While social distancing, your child can still practice for the golf tournament and experience all of these benefits the game provides. Have a virtual hangout on Zoom or Skype with some of your child’s peers, and they can play an online golf game to get ready! This will give them good practice and understanding of the game, all while allowing them to socialize like they would in person.
