The Benefits of Sports

At St. Teresa’s, we are dedicated to helping your child grow. We equip our students with the knowledge and skills needed to become confident Catholic leaders who serve their community, change the world, and follow their passions. We provide our students with multiple opportunities to grow outside of the classroom, and we believe that sports participation helps build skills for future success!

Teamwork
Students learn about team dynamics, collaboration, and the value of working together to achieve common goals. In order to successively work as a team, you have to learn how to properly communicate. When involved in sports, students learn how to express their opinions, follow the directions of the coach, and listen respectfully to the thoughts of those around them.

Confidence
Sports participation instills confidence at an early age. As your child learns more about themselves and their abilities, their self-esteem grows. They learn that they’re stronger than they knew, the value of hard work in pursuing a common goal, and the joy of achieving their goals after refusing to give up.

Respect
As an athlete, it’s important to respect coaches, trainers, teammates, referees, and competitors. Students learn the value of polite, positive, and genuine communication. Every practice and every game gives them an opportunity to practice good sportsmanship and winning and losing gracefully.

Discipline
Athletes learn very quickly that they must balance their time and energy in order to practice their skills. With strong self-discipline, students discover how to persevere through challenges, overcome procrastination, and stick to the decisions they’ve made. Students learn to fulfill promises they’ve made not only to themselves but to their teammates. This is a vital skill in academics! They learn how to manage their time, set goals, and effectively study and complete projects.

Leadership
Whether your child is the team captain or not, sports allow them to develop leadership skills both on and off the field. They learn how to encourage and motivate their teammates, focus on achieving objectives, make quick and informed decisions, develop strategies, and present their ideas. Sports prepare students to be leaders who are successful in the classroom as well as the business world.

With over 57 years of academic excellence, St. Teresa Catholic School, a private school in Titusville, provides a quality education that challenges and empowers students to develop to their full potential.
